Step 1 Lead in

Free talk

The teacher divides students to discuss in group about: Which kind of transport do you prefer to use: bus or train? Think about the advantages and disadvantages of each form of transport and fill in the following chart.

【設計意圖】通過設置與課文內(nèi)容相關的小組自由討論,學生對本節(jié)課主題有一定了解。同時也吸引學生興趣,為接下來的閱讀活動做鋪墊。

Step 2 Pre-reading

Make a Prediction

The teacher asks students to look at the picture and read the title of the passage in the book and predict what the passage is probably about.

【設計意圖】讀前通過展示課本的圖片和閱讀文章標題,引導學生對文章內(nèi)容大膽預測,激發(fā)了學生閱讀興趣,降低學生對文本的陌生感,鍛煉根據(jù)細節(jié)推測的能力。

Step 3 While-reading

(1) Skimming

Students read the passage quickly to discuss with their partners and summarize the main idea of the passage.

(2) Scanning

Activity 1:

Ask students to read the passage quickly again and answer the following questions.

①What was Wang Kun and Wang Wei’s idea of a good trip?

②Who planned the trip to the Mekong?

③Where is the source of the Mekong and which sea does it enter?

④What can you see when you travel along the Mekong?

While asking and answering questions with students, guide students to guess the meaning of the words and phrases such as: persuade, schedule, be fond of, care about, etc according to the context.

Activity 2:

Ask students to read the passage and the following sentences. And then, explain them in their own words.

①She gave me a determined look—the kind that said that she would not change her mind.

② ... my sister does not care about details.

③It makes wide bends or meanders through low valleys to the plains where rice grows.
